If the people as a whole wanted to be led to a new way of doing things, well, good for us. I'm not sure they want us as friends. Are we so friendly in armoured personnel carriers to keep us from being blown up. How much pressure do we bring to bear to force a change in the position women hold. Can we dictate what kind of friendship they need and how we are going to display friendship. I think they deserve what they want. I think they deserve the things we hold as dear, but NOT to be forced to take it. That's why I speak if the dishoner of being told we are fghting for a friend when it's not true. I don't think I can speak of 'we' (the country) in anything but the loosest terms. Too many opinions and motivations. What I can do is add my support (a drop in the bucket), withhold my support (another drop in the bucket), support the other position, or suggest a new position. I can try to convince others of how right I am, an be prepared to listen to others try to convince me of the same thing. I think these are the things I can do to fight for what I believe. And don't try to get others to die in the false belief they are helping unless they really are.

Amazing how a simple change in diet can have such a dramatic effect! Great article in Jan 28 NY Times magazine about the scientification of food. The more complicated they make things the harder it is for people to eat well and stay healthy. We have to listen to our innate voices. Matt

Good comments. Manufacturers have a way of disguising sugar on ingredient lists by calling it different names or using different types so sugar doesn't appear to be the main ingredient. But added up it is. Look out for corn syrup, sucrose, glucose, fructose, molasses, dextrose, honey, maltose, lactose, etc. It's all sugar! I used to be hypoglycemic as a kid when I'd eat sweets, get quick burst of energy, then become lethargic for hours as my blood sugar dropped.

I definitely agree as well. I used to have the "mean reds" a lot and mood swings and cutting out sugar pretty much cuts that out. I'm much happier and those around me are too! (ha) If I eat sugar now, I get a "high" and then crash and it's crazy how you can feel it when you don't eat sugar a lot. Good advice!

I believe we are fighting for human descency, for girls to attend school and be a viable person in society instead of the THIRD class citizen they were treated as under Sadam. Don't the IRAQI citizens deserve a friend? Look at the pictures of compassion MOST of our military are showing the Iraqi people. Don't the Iraqi's deserve us as friends? With all the hatred, oppression and fear they lived with, friendship is the least we could offer them.

High fructose corn syrup is put in everything now, even whole grain breads. This was just as hard to kick as sugar. I can tell when it is foods now. I never have a weight problem. No yeast infections from too much sugar. The mood swings are less. I entirely agree with you how sugar has made this country sick.

How sad that so many have died in loving support of their country, but for what reason? To fight for your friends is honorable. Possibly dying in the fight is the price one might pay to support that friend. But deceiving those fighters into believing they are fighting for a friend when it is not true, is dishonorable beyond belief.

Good question, well asked. The situation in Iraq seems to be getting worse every day, and the more we learn about it, the more questions are raised.

I look forward to future entries - the title you've chosen for your blog is intriguing!

Very insightful-- the truth is, who is it that we're fighting, and what is it really for? There are so many uncertanties in today's world, and this blog really gave me something to think about.
